THE UKRAINIAN POWER SYSTEM IS FUNCTIONING STABLE
Despite the fact the calendar spring is already here, the Ukrainian power system has overcome these days the second winter peak load, which amounted up to 23500 MW. The following figure equals to the previously fixed maximum of 23800 MW.
The situation is absolutely under control. Given the fact the basic load of the NPP is higher than in December and January (current aggregated load on the power units amounts to 11000 MW), the increase in consumption conditioned by the temperature drop, did not influence the operational activities of the system at all. There are reserve units at the thermal power plants, which may be commissioned in order to cover the peak loads.
It should be mentioned as well that the decrease of the gas pressure in the Ukrainian gas transportation system by 20% did not influence as well the sustainable operation of the Ukrainian power system.
Recently the National Security and State Defense Council of Ukraine declared the state of the crisis situation of the emergency level at the natural gas market. Kyiv CHPP-5 and CHPP-6, Kharkiv CHPP-5 and Kremenchuk CHPP started to use fuel oil instead of gas. However, the load at the stations remained constant, there were not any changes in the country`s power balance.
