Ukrenergo and MAVIR, Hungarian Transmission System Operator, have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the modernization of the interstate OHL 750 kV Zakhidnoukrainska-Albertirsa.
The parties agreed to develop the joint Plan of actions on the project implementation namely they determined the technical conditions of the reconstruction process.
MAVIR is to construct a new substation 750/400 kV Szabolcsbaka (Baka) until 2019 in order to ensure a reliable energy supply in Kisvarda region. As well, the OHL 750 kV Zakhidnoukrainska-Albertirsa will be connected to the new substation.
Within the defined plan Ukrenergo will execute the transposition of conductors of OHL 750 kV Zakhidnoukrainska-Albertirsa as well it is previewed to install a fiber-optic communication link in ground wire on the joint 220-400 kV overhead lines. The line is planned to be reconfigured until the end of 2019.
Modernizatin of the interstate OHL 750 kV Zakhidnoukrainska-Albertirsa is of the particular importance for Ukrenergo as it means strengthening of the existing connections between the Ukrainain energy system and the Continental Europe power system. It is essential especially owing the future sytnchronized operation of the Ukrainian energy system and ENTSO-E.
“It is one of the most powerful interstate transmission lines, which throughput capacity is limited by the generating capacity of the “Burshtyn Island”. In case of the parallel operation with ENTSO-E the electricity exchange will significantly grow and will solely depend on the electricity surplus within the Ukrainian energy system. OHL 750 kV Zakhidnoukrainska-Albertirsa will be a strong technological passage for the cross-border flows and electricity trading with the EU countries”, mentioned Oleksii Brekht, Deputy CEO, COO at Ukrenergo.
As of today Hungary is a key importer of the Ukrainian electricity with the average annual scope up to 3 bln kwh.
