  • Ukrenergo launches a large-scale project on rehabilitation of the telecommunications network

Large-scale construction of a new 414 km long Fiber Optical Communication Line (FOCL) started in Ukrenergo’s Zakhidna PS. The project involves laying of fiber optic cables along existing lines of power transmission along the path of 330kV Substation Lviv Pivdenna – 220kV Substation Rozdil – 220kV Substation Stryi – 220kV Substation Boryslav – 220kV Substation Volovets – 400kV Substation Mukacheve – Ukraine’s state border on Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. The cost of the project is 204.3 million UAH. The project involves repairing six power lines and laying fiber optic communication cables.

In particular, some portions of the transmission lines will be replaced, the bases and earthing of the supports  repaired, cross arms on all overhead lines reinforced, and the FOCL is laid in the lightning protection cable. DWDM station multiplex equipment at 400 kV Mukacheve Substation and 220 kV Stryi Substation will be installed for the construction of reliable high-speed Ethernet data channels.

In 2019, it is planned to carry out works on two overhead lines: 22kV Mukacheve- Tisaliok PL, Kisvarda (Hungary) and 400 kV PL Mukacheve – Rosiori (Romania).

Rehabilitation of the transmission lines and construction of FOCL contribute to the fulfilment of SE NPC Ukrenergo’s  commitments under the Memorandum with Hungary’s MAVIR, in the part of relay protection and anti-theft automation and telecommunications.

Implementation of this project will significantly increase the reliability of the operation of the six overhead lines, provide a modern level of communication between facilities of Ukrenergo’s Zakhidna PS and enable connection of Ukrenergo telecommunication networks with those in ENTSO-E partner countries (Slovakia, Romania, Hungary). The new FOCLs across Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, as well as already existing lines across Poland, will enable the reliable integration of the Ukrenergo telecommunication network in the network of ENTSO-E partner countries.
