Ukrenergo held a nation-wide corporate donating action “Vital Energy of Your Blood” in 23 Ukrainian cities. More than 300 employees of the company throughout the country participated in it. The total volume of donated blood, which was transferred to 11 medical institutions and regional blood transfusion centres, reached 135 litres.
Ukrenergo launched the social donating project “Vital Energy of Your Blood” on 16 October by signing the Memorandum of cooperation with Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, which is considered one of the best medical institutions in the world dealing with cardiovascular diseases. After this, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv, Kyiv and other cities also joined the project. In all these cities, Ukrenergo signed memoranda of cooperation with local medical institutions and blood transfusion centres.
It should be noted that statistically, one donor per blood donation can save three human lives. Medical workers stress that the issue of blood deficit is acute for all medical institutions: if on average 33 blood donors are necessary per thousand people, in Ukraine this indicator slightly reaches 11.
“Ukrenergo has become one of our largest donors. Due to the deficit in donors and donated blood, we really appreciate such corporate initiatives. The systemic approach the company demonstrated serves as a guarantee for us that when necessary, we will receive the required help – blood samples – in order to ensure timely assistance to our patients,” noted Valerii Diachenko, Head of Blood Transfusion Division of Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery.
“As a socially responsible company, we cannot stand aside from social problems. We are truly proud of our colleagues who decided to donate blood. Due to their indifference and humanity, we managed to donate to medical institutions 135 litres of blood throughout Ukraine. This equals to the salvation of almost 70 human lives. And this is the most important result of our cooperation with medical workers. Our company’s devotion to general human values is not accidental. This is an integral element of our corporate culture. This is a tradition, which, thanks to the project “Vital Energy of Your Blood” reached new horizons and importance for the company,” stressed Mykhailo Bno-Airiian, Deputy CEO for Communications and International Cooperation.
Ukrenergo plans to hold such large-scale donating actions throughout Ukraine biennially, namely in autumn and in spring.
