On 17 July, at the premises of Ukrenergo, a meeting was held with the representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and the U.S. Department of Energy at the initiative of the chairman of the company Vsevolod Kovalchuk.
The meeting was attended by the acting Advisor on Economic Issues of the US Embassy in Ukraine Douglas O’Neill, Energy Diplomat Tucker Brown, Assistant Economic Adviser of the U.S. Embassy Oksana Sukhina, Program Coordinator of the Department Arina Kovalenko.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the synchronization with ENTSO-E, namely, geopolitical, political and economic aspects of the process and future steps for the implementation of the “Agreement on the Conditions for the Future Interconnection of Ukrainian and Moldovan Power Systems to the Continental European Entso-E Power System” as well as technical support for these measures. They also identified possible areas of technical assistance from the U.S. government and USAID in a number of projects on the development of the Ukraine’s IPS. In the meeting, Vsevolod Kovalchuk conveyed to the ambassador of the USA and the management of the USAID agency letters with proposals on specific areas and projects to expand technical cooperation with the United States.
“The United States is Ukraine’s longstanding and reliable partner in carrying out reforms and security issues. I hope that the electric power industry as one of the drivers of the economy will not remain on the sidelines of our friends, and I very much hope for the implementation of joint projects in the near future,” Vsevolod Kovalchuk emphasized.
Attention was also paid to the topic of recent searches of Ukrenergo by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine. Vsevolod Kovalchuk commented on possible motives for such actions.
