  • The first two-day UKRENERGO and ENTSO-E workshop continues in Kyiv

On 4-5 July, UKRENERGO office plays host to the first two-day joint workshop organized by ENTSO-E and the Ukrainian transmission system operator.

The purpose of this event is to discuss and exchange experience in a broad range of topics including management and development of power systems, infrastructure development, dispatching and integration of markets.

“UKRENERGO is only in the beginning of its path toward integration with ENTSO-E, and it is extremely important that this seminar is held exactly one week after we signed the Agreement on the terms and conditions of the future merger of Ukraine’s and Moldova’s power systems with the energy system of continental Europe. Therefore, this workshop is very timely for us: events like this are an effective way of interacting, receiving real knowledge and advices that will help us overcome this path faster. In today’s conditions, the experience of Latvia and Turkey, which recently have successfully completed harmonization of their energy sectors with European requirements, is especially valuable for us”, Mykhailo Bno-Airiyan, Ukrenergo’s Director for Communications and International Cooperation said in his greeting word to the seminar’s attendees. The workshop’s European participants include representatives of the European Commission (members of the European Commission’s office in Ukraine, and representatives from the headquarters in Brussels communicating via Skype), ENTSO-E Corporate Affairs Manager Susanne Nies, ENTSO-E Regional Group Senior Advisor Alexander Mondovic, ENTSO-E System Development Advisor Andriy Vovk, and representatives of transmission system operators from Latvia, Poland, Turkey, Austria, Denmark, Romania, France and Sweden.

UKRENERGO is represented at the workshop by almost 40 specialists responsible for various aspects of Ukrainian power system’s European integration.

It is expected that these workshops will become a regular event, and therefore, the attendees have discussed the areas of further cooperation.

For your information: ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) is an organization presently representing 43 transmission system operators from 34 countries. It exists in the present format since 2009 as an association of ATSOI, BALTSO, ETSO, NORDEL, UCTE and UKTSOA.

Today, integration of Ukraine’s power system into ENTSO-E is designated as one of the priority areas of development and part of the policy of Ukraine’s energy independence (Action Program of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved by the Resolution 26-VIII of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of 11 December 2014).

On 28 June 2017, UKRENERGO CEO Vsevolod Kovalchuk signed in Brussels the Agreement on the terms and conditions of the future merger of Ukraine’s and Moldova’s power systems with the energy system of continental Europe. This document consists of three main parts: Catalogue of Unconditional Requirements for Merger of Power Systems; List of Required Additional Studies; Roadmap.
