  • ENTSO-E Project Group Ukraine-Moldova approved the first results of the power units’ tests at Ukrainian TPP and CHPP

    On 4 February 2019, ENTSO-E Project Group Ukraine-Moldova discussed the results of testing the system of automatic speed and excitation control at Kharkivska CHPP-5 received in January 2019. These tests are performed in order to study the synchronous operation of the power systems of Ukraine and Moldova with the power system of Continental Europe ENTSO-E.

    The members of the Project Group recognised the received results as sufficient for preparing the mathematical model of the power units of CHPP and their further use when studying the dynamic and static stability of the IPS of Ukraine. This study is aimed at defining the best technical model for the interconnection of the power systems of Ukraine and Moldova with the power system of Continental Europe ENTSO-E.

    The next stage of testing the system of automatic speed and excitation control started on 5 February 2019 at one of the power units of Trypilska TPP.

    By the end of April 2019, it is planned to test the system of automatic speed and excitation control at eleven power units of eight power plants.

    It is to be recalled that on 28 June 2017, Ukrenergo signed the Agreement on the conditions for the future interconnection of the power systems of Ukraine and Moldova with the power system of Continental Europe” (hereinafter referred to as the “Agreement”). It consists of the Catalogue of Measures, a list of required studies and the Roadmap. Interconnection of the integrated power system (IPS) of Ukraine with ENTSO-E is provided within a joint control block with the power system of Moldova. The testing of TPP and CHPP units are provided by the Agreement’s Roadmap. The testing is conducted with the support of USAID, while USEA acts as a consultant.
