NPC Ukrenergo will independently process the dismantled reinforced concrete structures accumulated during the reconstruction of substations, power lines and related infrastructure. For this purpose, the Сompany has recently purchased an all-purpose mobile industrial shredder IMPAKTOR 250 produced in Ukraine.
The processing of dismantled reinforced concrete structures constitutes a part of Ukrenergo’s policy on responsible waste management. This policy was developed by the Company taking into account the provisions of the National Waste Management Plan until 2030, which, in particular, provides for the creation of a network of mobile crushing plants for processing construction and repair waste.
Currently, Ukrenergo is implementing a Comprehensive program for substations automation, which provides for the reconstruction and technical re-equipment of all the Company’s substations. During the performance of works, the construction facilities accumulate large volumes of concrete waste, most of which is non-liquid, primarily reinforced concrete structures with thin reinforcement (foundations, portals, racks, floor slabs, road slabs, asphalt concrete waste, etc.). One substation, depending on its size and scale of work, may produce more than 4 thousand tonnes of concrete waste (about 2 thousand cubic meters). Its utilization by specialized enterprises is quite expensive, around 1000-1500 UAH per cubic meter, which increases the Company’s expenses.
“We try to arrange works during the reconstruction and modernization of facilities with maximum efficiency and in accordance with current environmental requirements. The shredder will allow us to process concrete remains into secondary rubble, which can be used for the construction of roads, in particular, access and internal roads to Ukrenergo’s facilities. Thus, we will be able to save on the purchase of construction materials,” said Oleksii Brekht, Acting Member of the Board and Director for Operation and Development of Networks at NPC Ukrenergo.
In addition to reinforced concrete, the shredder can process wood waste, roots, asphalt concrete, natural stones, car tires, plastic, etc. Due to its compact dimensions, the shredder can be moved anywhere in Ukraine, while its productivity, depending on the type of material, allows processing up to 100 tonnes of waste per hour.
It is to be recalled that Ukrenergo received an award at the international competition of the UN Global Compact “Partnership for Sustainable Development 2020” in the nomination “Planet” for a project proposing that porcelain insulators that have lost their technical properties be realized for further processing into construction mixtures, paving and more.
