Ukrenergo’s Corporate Social Initiative—The Good Neighbour—received the European Business Association (EBA) Award for its contribution to the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Ukraine. The presentation of project results and awarding was part of the 2021 Sustainable Development Day, initiated by EBA’s Committee on Industrial Ecology and Sustainable Development.
The Good Neighbour is Ukrenergo’s project for the development of communities in which the company operates. It was created to achieve UN Global Sustainable Development Goals, in particular, the 11th Goal “Sustainable Cities and Communities”. In various parts of Ukraine, where the infrastructure facilities of Ukrenergo are located, the Company organizes events to promote active development of communities and territories, spread knowledge about social entrepreneurship, design thinking, opportunities to attract investment, and promotion of own initiatives.
The project involves experts and mentors who tell residents about how to start their own business, about successful cases of community development and social entrepreneurship, and about finding the best solutions for projects implementation. These meetings include training on how to write business plans, apply for grants, about practices of attracting investors and partners to implement projects, promote initiatives in the information space and social networks.
“Ukrenergo’s project The Good Neighbour is useful for small businesses and new social entrepreneurs or those who want to start their own business but do not know where to begin, representatives of local executive authorities responsible for the region development, and just active citizens who want to implement projects to benefit society. In 2021, during the first six months of the project, we attracted over 200 participants from more than 50 communities. We already have more than a dozen requests from different regions for holding events. Therefore, in 2022, Ukrenergo plans to expand the geography of The Good Neighbour,” said Maksym Yurkov, member of the Management Board of NPC Ukrenergo, during the project presentation.
It is the second time Ukrenergo has participated in the Sustainable Development Day organized by the EBA Committee on Industrial Ecology and Sustainable Development. Last year, the Company presented a project for the reuse of porcelain. This project contributes to the implementation of the 12th Global Sustainable Development Goal “Sustainable Consumption”.
It is to be recalled that in 2020, NPC Ukrenergo officially became a signatory to the UN Global Compact in Ukraine and a finalist of the international competition “Partnership for Sustainable Development 2020”.
