    It’s Friday again and we are ready to show you our impressive series on the recent news from the world of power energy.  Selecting only the best shots and editing the most interesting information Ukrenergo presents a short motion picture of the main power energy news.  Make yourself comfortable, grab some snacks and let`s have a look at:

    1. Houston, we`ve got a problem. An impact of the Hurricane Harvey on the world energy markets is hard to overestimate. Houston city, well-known for a space center and 5 thousand of power energy companies, has suffered the most. Stock exchanges have already reflected on the price fluctuation and the price of oil drastically dropped without any permit from OPEC. According to the National Oceanic and atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the losses from the Harvey Hurricane amounted to more than USD 160 bln (even more than a notorious Katrina Hurricane). The losses of the companies forced to freeze their activities on coast are not included in the above mentioned amount. Ironically the main reason of the hurricane is supposed a global warming. Actually, it`s a serious message from the Planet Earth to the biggest region of the fossil fuels.
    2. Electric cars. Are you sureThe Tesla Powerpack projects will allow to save the electricity produced by the wind-power stations. Previously only the owners of the solar farms could have such an opportunity. Australia is a first lucky one to get a newly created Neorn’s Hornsdale Wind Farm facility from Tesla.  It is noteworthy that the world`s most powerful accumulating substation on lithium-ion batteries has been launched this year in California. Tesla predicts the energy saving will fall in price by 70% by 2030. This is a good prognosis given that “house as a power station” approach is getting more and more popular around the world. The following approach help to save on the utility bills up to 60%.  It is widely used in the USA, Great Britain, Sweden and Australia. Hopefully, it`ll be applied in Ukraine as well.
    3. Scottish records.  Atlantis Resources Limited, a Scottish company announced it set the world`s record in a tidal energy production.  The principle of tidal force constitutes in huge submersible turbines used as underwater windmills generating energy. The technology functions owing to the daily fluctuations of the sea levels caused by the gravitational forces of the Moon, Sun and Earth rotation. This makes the tidal energy more predictable than solar or windy. Given that water is more than 800 times denser than air, the water turbines are smaller than windy being 30m in diameter.  The produced energy was enough for 2000 scottish houses. All in all the company is pondering over installment of 269 turbines generating 398 MVof the renewable energies. It is more than enough for supplying the energy to 175 000 houses.

    1. Energy blockchain. Eneres, a Tokyo Energy Company, is testing new possibilities of the blockchain-based distributed register. This will lead to a creation of the “smart grids” which will become the basis for the common energy use economy. Thus owing to the Blockchain technology (widely used in the bitcoin operations) the households with solar panels or other renewable energy sources will provide the other grids with the surplus getting some profit. About 1000 households in Fukushima will be involved in the test.  An efficient exchange in the convergence of technologies. Japan as any other country generates innovations creating the revolutionary approaches in energy a well.

    1. One is polluting – the other is paying.European electricity prices for year-ahead deliveries hit a 32-month high pushed up by rises in fuel and carbon emission permit prices after France and Germany said they would seek agreement on EU carbon market reforms. The benchmark German baseload power contract rose 2.32% to 34.43 euros a megawatt-hour, its highest level since November 2014.  The French year-ahead contract rose 1.61% to 41.15 euros a megawatt-hour. The countries should meet the commitments under the Paris climate deal. The ones who pollute more should pay more.   Germany`s Economy Ministry states that the country would have to shut 25 gigawatts of coal-fired generating capacity by 2030 to meet carbon reduction targets it has commited tp under the above mentioned deal.
