Ukrenergo is hosting workshops within the ENTSO-E Cooperation Beyond Membership Programme for 2019-2021.
On July 23-24, ENTSO-E market experts Ricardo Renedo Williams and Christophe Cesson talked about the principles governing the European energy market – one of the largest in the world – and its regional specificities, discussing case studies of countries like Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The speakers highlighted the opportunities that opened up before the European countries after the integration of energy markets, pricing in various segments of the European electricity market, the effect of import/export of electricity on pricing, etc.
The attendees discussed the development of interconnections between power systems in Europe, their impact on the volume and intensity of international electricity trade, the evolution of the European balancing market and various aspects of its functioning in different EU countries.
Another issue that was discussed separately concerned the operation of the ENTSO-E Transparency platform, where, according to the ENTSO-E agreement, Ukrenergo submits data on the total load for the settlement period, the forecast for the total daily load and physical flows between the trading zones.
To remind you, the integration of the Ukrainian grid with the European one is set for 2023. Ukrenergo signed an agreement on participation in the ENTSO-E Cooperation Program outside the membership framework in February 2019. The purpose of the program is to strengthen cooperation with fellow TSOs through specialised targeted training events. The key components of the Ukrenergo partnership with ENTSO-E are studying the experience and trends of the European energy market and staff training.
The inaugural workshop for Ukrenergo’s employees within the Ukrenergo cooperation Programme was held In May 2019 and featured ENTSO-E Secretary General Laurent Schmitt and the Strategy and Communication Managing Director of the ENTSO-E Dr. Susanne Nies.
