Introduction of the new electricity market enabled electricity imports into Ukraine. In July, Ukraine imported 274.620 million kWh of electricity, including over 171 million kWh of electricity imported to the isalnd of Burshtynska TPP: 151.093 million kWh – from Slovakia, 19.943 million kWh – from Hungary.
Imports from Belarus totalled 103.584 million kWh. In July, Ukraine’s total import of electricity amounted to 491.764 million kWh. Of these, from the Burshtyn TPP island to the EU (Hungary, Slovakia, Romania) – 347.033 million kWh, to Poland – 96.803 million kWh, and to Moldova – 47.928 million kWh. Today imports from Hungary, Slovakia and Belarus are at approximately the same level as in July.
Under the new model of the electricity market, electricity imports boost competition in Ukraine’s energy market, reducing the price of electricity and providing a significant incentive to invest in energy efficiency of electricity generation and transmission technologies.
