NPC Ukrenergo has received the Certificate from the State Inspectorate of Architecture and Urban Development of Ukraine confirming that the SS 330 kV Sumy is ready for operation after a comprehensive reconstruction of 330 and 110 kV switchyards.
This is the first substation in NPC Ukrenergo’s large-scale comprehensive programme for substations automation commissioned after reconstruction. It is also the first facility commissioned under the “Rehabilitation of transformer substations” Project as part of the Second Power Transmission Project implemented with loan funds from the World Bank.
It should be noted that the Certificate was received in only 2 months – a record-breaking time for such a high-tech facility. This indicates the high-quality performance of all work in full compliance with the design documentation, as well as the level of reliability and safety of new equipment. In addition, it was the first time when all necessary documents for obtaining the Certificate were submitted through DIIA electronic platform, which also considerably accelerated the process.
It is to be recalled that the comprehensive reconstruction of the SS 330 kV Sumy was completed in June 2021. In particular, all equipment of 330 and 110 kV switchyards was completely replaced with the installation of new gas-insulated switches, gas-insulated current and voltage transformers, and other equipment from the world’s leading manufacturers. In addition, the facility is equipped with four new backup cells so that it will be possible to connect new overhead lines of distribution networks when necessary. The substation received a new building of relay panels with modern microprocessor devices for relay protection and emergency automation. Cable networks, supporting structures and foundations were also replaced. In addition, the substation has a new transformer replaced as part of another project.
The work performed ensures a high level of reliability and safety of the substation, which means the reliability of power supply to consumers of the city of Sumy, including critical infrastructure and nearby settlements.
