According to operational data, in April 2020, electricity consumption in Ukraine decreased by 11% compared to March of the same year and amounts to 9028 million kW∙h, and compared to April 2019, it has decreased by almost 8%.
Thus, a decrease in consumption is observed in all consumer groups.
Compared to April 2019, the largest consumption decline is shown by engineering industry (-21%), transport industry (-17%), metallurgy (-13%), as well as fuel industry (-12%) and utility sector (-12%). The population reduced electricity consumption by only 1% compared to April 2019.
The main factors affecting consumption are the seasonal rise in air temperature and quarantine measures that have limited the ability of industrial enterprises, medium and small businesses, as well as service sector.
At the same time, the analysis of consumption in 2019 shows that the trend towards a significant further consumption decrease refers mainly to the population and the household consumer group. Other economy sectors were decreasing or increasing their consumption situationally. Therefore, it is expected that the downward trend in consumption by all categories will continue until the end of the quarantine period.
